Location: Whitechapel, London with some hybrid work
Contract Type: Part-time (2 days per week), temporary freelance
Duration: Mid April – July + one day in September for evaluation
Rate: £36000 per year, pro-rata (£150 per day)
Conditions: 6hr days including 1 hour break

The Festival of Collective Liberation is a space for radical joy, healing, and community. Led by a small, passionate team committed to liberation for all, we create a festival rooted in solidarity and celebration.
We’re looking for a Volunteer Coordinator to help make this festival a reality. You’ll recruit, train, and support volunteers, ensuring they feel prepared and empowered to contribute to a transformative experience for all.
Your Role
- Recruit & manage volunteers – Engage communities, ensure we have suitable people, and coordinate scheduling.
- Maintain accurate records of volunteer details, hours, and activities.
- Gather and analyse feedback from volunteers to improve the programme.
- Lead training & support – Ensure volunteers understand their roles, safeguarding practices, and the festival’s mission.
- Provide verbal updates to the Festival Producer
- Create a rota and update it accordingly
- Be the go-to person on-site – Oversee check-ins, resolve issues, and ensure volunteers are cared for.
- Champion safety & accessibility – Work with the Festival Producer to uphold safeguarding policies.
- Celebrate volunteers – Organise appreciation efforts and contribute to post-festival evaluation.
Who You Are
- Deeply committed to Black liberation and have strong experience working in and with Black communities on issues related to anti-racism and/or Black cultures
- Experienced in volunteer coordination at events, festivals, or community projects.
- Passionate about carceral and border abolition, disability justice, and collective liberation.
- A strong communicator who can lead teams, solve problems, and stay calm under pressure.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to motivate
- Committed to creating a safe, welcoming space for volunteers and festival-goers alike.
Additional Information
- You will be required to work the full day on site – on Saturday 19th July, the day of the festival
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
